TSMC and National Development Fund Propose Board of Directors for Vanguard International Semiconductor
Hsinchu, Taiwan, R.O.C., May 5, 2009 –TSMC announced today the Company and the National Development Fund, Executive Yuan, have jointly nominated a slate of candidates for Vanguard International Semiconductor (VIS) Corporation’s Board of Directors and Supervisors (see table below). As VIS’s current Chairman Mr. Chuan Lin has completed his mission at the company, he will not seek re-election as Chairman, but remain in the Board of Directors and also serve as a consultant to the company. TSMC and the Development Fund have nominated Mr. Ching-Chu Chang to succeed Mr. Lin as Chairman.
“Mr. Chang has abundant experience in and professional knowledge of the semiconductor industry, and we believe he will provide much aid to VIS’s future development,” said TSMC Vice President and Spokesperson Ms. Lora Ho.
Mr. Ching-Chu Chang holds a Bachelors’ degree in Electrical Engineering from National Taiwan University and a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from Princeton University. Shortly after receiving his doctorate, Mr. Chang joined the Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI) Integrated Circuit Development Project, and was one of the “seed” engineers sent to RCA in the United States to transfer IC technology to Taiwan. Mr. Chang served with ITRI’s Electronic Research & Service Organization (ERSO) for 13 years, including a period as Director General, and also earned a Masters’ Degree in Management Science from Stanford University during this time. After leaving ERSO-ITRI, Mr. Chang worked briefly at Champion Consulting Group then joined Winbond Electronics Corp, serving in a variety of positions including Executive Vice President, President, Deputy CEO and Deputy Chairman, contributing greatly to Winbond’s technology development, product planning, memory business operations, management systems, and human resource development.
TSMC and the National Development Fund are currently VIS’s two largest shareholders. TSMC holds a 37.5% stake in VIS, while the National Development fund owns 16.3%.
